Dracaena Care

Although there are many varieties of dracaena, they mostly require the same basic conditions to grow their best!

Light:

Dracaenas need moderate to bright indirect sunlight. Avoid direct sunlight as it can burn the tips of the leaves.  The bottom leaves of dracaenas may droop or turn yellow and fall during the growing season however this is normal as dracaenas shed their leaves in order to get new ones.

Water:

Water the plant only when the top 1 inch of soil is dry and then water it thoroughly with room-temperature water. Never allow the base of the pot to sit in a saucer of water.  Overwatering can cause root rot. Most dracaena prefer humidity, mist leaves regularly (dracaena godseffiana can tolerate dry air).

Temperature:

Dracaenas like comfortable room temperatures of between 18-23°C degrees. A sudden drop in temperature can cause the lower leaves to drop off

Fertilizer:

Feed the plant regularly in spring and summer, cease feeding in autumn to give the plant a resting period during less active growth.

Potting

Dracaenas are sensitive to an excess of fluoride. Use potting soils with a low percentage of perlite and maintain the soil pH between 6.0 and 6.5 to prevent the absorption of fluoride.
