Rose & Hydrangea Care

After you receive your roses from Brown’s The Florist, there are a few simple tips we recommend to keep flowers longer lasting for your enjoyment.

Rose Care

If roses arrive wrapped in cellophane:

  1.  Upon arrival remove cello packaging with water by snipping the cello with scissors to release the water over a sink.  Fill a clean deep vase with tepid water and add floral preservative following manufacturer’s directions.
  2.  Re-cut stems and change water every other day.
  3.  To re-cut stems.  Fill a separate basin with clean water.  With shears, re-cut rose stems on an angle underwater taking at least 1 inch from the stem.  Place immediately into a vase. Cutting rose stems under water will prevent air locks in the stems and premature dropping of the rose.
  4.  Display roses in a cool location, away from drafts, heat sources and direct sunlight

If flowers arrive in a vase: Please follow steps 2, 3 and 4.

We guarantee our roses for 5 days! If you follow these steps and your roses don’t last for 5 days, please contact us.

Hydrangea Care

If Hydrangeas arrive wrapped in cellophane:

  1.  Upon arrival remove either plastic vials or cello packaging with water by snipping the cello with scissors to release the water over a sink.  Fill a clean deep vase with cold water and add floral preservative following manufacturer’s directions.
  2.  Re-cut stems and change water every other day.
  3.  To re-cut stems.  Fill a separate basin with clean water.  With shears, re-cut Hydrangea stems on an angle underwater taking at least 1 inch from the stem.  Place immediately into a vase. Cutting Hydrangea stems under water will prevent air locks in the stems.
  4.  Display Hydrangea in a cool location, away from drafts, heat sources and direct sunlight

If flowers arrive in a vase: Please follow steps 2, 3 and 4.

Tip:  If the Hydrangea flower heads look tired or need to perk up, submerge the entire bloom and stem completely under cool water and let the flowers soak for 20-40 minutes. Re-cut stem on an angle underwater and place back into a vase with clean water.
