Brief info
Alison joined our Brown’s family in January of 2024. Upon moving to Victoria from Northern Ontario, she printed out some resumes at the library, and ventured into our Downtown shop to buy a gift. Fortunately for us, Alison gave Brown’s her resume on a whim after a lovely conversation with Harriet. We decided that her prior work experience at a plant shop in Ontario made her a perfect Brown’s candidate, along with her friendliness, curiosity, and diligence that have since served us very well!
When asked about her favourite job to do at Brown’s, Alison said she loves to try anything new. Determined and a quick learner, she is always eager to experiment with new floral designs and is a thorough plant-carer. If you’ve ever asked Alison for house plant advice, we’re certain you’ve left the shop with a host of new knowledge!
Having studied film and media in her undergrad, Alison loves watching movies in her free time; she currently cites Paul Thomas Anderson and Richard Linklater as her favourite directors. Her love of learning charges her hobbies, as she also likes to explore Vancouver Island, read, and hike. Once, Alison hiked 44 kilometres in one day!
For Alison, the highlight of working at Brown’s is her flower family; she tells us that each day at work feels like a get-together with her friends, which is very sweet of her!
Dahlias are Alison’s favourite flower – a wonderful choice for summer with a gorgeous colour selection.
Alison would tell aspiring florists to ask lots of questions of more experienced designers. She recommends taking any opportunity to learn or design something new, even if you are doubting yourself – what great words of encouragement!
