Oleander Care

Nerium

Light:

Oleander plants prefer bright light with at least four hours of direct sun each day.  The plant can be placed outdoors in the summer. Acclimatize it gradually and bring inside the home before the nights become cold.

Water:

Water generously throughout the growing season, keeping the soil evenly moist. Water sparingly in winter when plant is resting.

Temperature:

Keep your Oleander plant warm approximately 21°C-29°C during active growth; cooler in winter at 13°C.

Fertilizer:

Feed your Oleander every 2 weeks during the spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted by half.

Potting:

Eight parts all-purpose potting mix, one part sand, one part perlite.

Pruning

In autumn shorten stems that have flowers by about half to keep the plant compact.  Prune away and discard any dead, discoloured or damaged leaves when you see them during growing months.

Toxicity:

All parts of this plant are poisonous, so keep away from pets and children.  Use caution when pruning and landscaping oleander’s.
